Ask Jessie:

Do you have questions about X-POLE?

These are the most common questions we're asked. If you don't find your answer here... just email us at sales@xpole.com.au

Q - Does the X-POLE spin?
X-POLE has been designed to be everything you could want in a pole. It’s fully removable, height adjustable, its spinning and stationary in one! Just lock and unlock the pole in seconds.

Q - What is the pole made of?
The X-POLE is finished in high-grade electroplated chrome, not stainless steel.
The chrome finish really is the ideal finish for a removable pole, as it’s not as slippery as stainless steel, but it’s not sticky like lacquered poles.

Q - What about the width of the X-POLE?
X-POLE is thinner than the older style 2" poles, but wider than the brass permanent poles you often see in clubs.
If you are learning on a thinner brass pole, you will find a small difference. Generally, it’s easier to do upside down moves and sits/laybacks on a wider pole.
One handed spins are a little harder, but personally I’ve found once you master it on a wider pole, it becomes sooooo easy on the thinner poles…
Great for getting your confidence up on new moves!

Q - What height can I go up to?
X-POLE is fully portable and you can adjust the height to many different heights from the box - 2235mm (7'4") to 2745mm (9').
This means you can always take your pole to a friend's house or to a hotel without any hassle!
The extra wide ceiling dome ensures that even if you do have more flex in the pole (owing to a higher ceiling) it is difficult for the pole to fall!
It really is the ideal solution for people who are unable to have a permanent pole!

Q - How long does it take to put the X-POLE up?
Once you know the ceiling height, the X-POLE only takes minutes to put up and take down.
The first time you put the pole up, watch the X-POLE DVD first. Then, have the DVD running on the telly while you are assembling the pole. This may take longer, but it will mean that you remember all the safety aspects when you put your own X-POLE up!
When you know how to do it, it's just a matter of working out which extension to use... and we have a chart for that!

Q – What are the most important things I need to know when I’m setting up my pole?
The most important things are:
1. start from the base with the smallest extension and work your way up to the larger extensions.

2. assemble each piece with the base flat on the floor. With higher ceilings, sometimes people try and lie the pole sideways to assemble it. Please don’t do it this way as the threads may not sit flush when you screw them sideways and this will increase the ‘flex’ in the pole once it is up!

3. make sure the ceiling dome is 100% flat on the ceiling (all the way around) before and after you tighten up the adjuster rod.
This will stop the pole from falling over. The only pole’s we’ve ever heard of slipping were when the ceiling dome was on an angle to the roof and people tried to use them!

4. Once you have it all tight, try turning the pole left to right.
It may move slightly - even if in a stationary/locked/static setting.
If this happens, please check if the ‘turning’ happens all the way down to the base? If it is it means the pole is tight enough, but the spin/static lock needs to be tightened. If the bottom of the pole stays still, and an upper piece moves, it means that one of the extensions or upper parts of the pole needs to be tightened up.
This probably all seems a little complicated, but after you watch the DVD you’ll know what I mean!

Q - Will the pole fall over?
X-POLE has been engineered to withstand the pressures of professional pole dancing.
It has been designed with safety as the number 1 priority.
The extra wide support dome, angular stability lock and the non-slip rubber lip and base are some of the many features used to secure your pole.
Remember that the X-POLE is designed to be removable i.e. not permanently fixed to the ceiling. X-POLE is therefore obviously not designed for heavy guys to rugby tackle!!
Please bear this in mind when you have guests using your pole, as your warranty will not cover big blokes feeling challenged to bring the pole down!

Q – Help! I’ve tightened up my pole too much and now I can’t get it down?
Firstly, you’ll need to unscrew your locking nut at the top of the pole. Then screw the adjuster rod down into the pole, and take the ceiling dome off. You should be able to bring the pole (gently) down to the floor.
Using both the tightening rods, you can gently tap the rod (not the pole!) with a hammer until it comes loose. It helps if you leaver the other rod off the floor or get a buddy to help? Just ensure that the rods are all the way through BOTH holes on the pole, or you will damage your X-POLE.

Q – How long does delivery take?
We have a standard courier charge of $50 Australia wide. This is using a door to door courier service to ensure full accountability from the delivery service. This way we can be sure that you will get your pole in good condition. Generally, delivery takes about a week, but please email if you have any questions relating to delivery. To ensure we have no hassles, please include your postcode, your mobile number and a street address (not just a PO Box!). This way we can contact you if we need to.

Q - How many pieces is X-Pole?
X-Pole consists of 2 main poles to which extensions are added t increase the overall height. The X-Pole is designed to be used from 2235mm (7' 4"" / 88"") to 2745mm (9' / 108"")

What height will I get in the box?
Unlike other poles X-Pole does not need to be cut to height so it can be moved to different height venues. The box will allow you to construct a pole from 2235mm (7' 4" 0r 88") to 2745mm (9' or 108"). To go higher extensions are added.

My ceiling is over 9'
X-Pole uses extensions to increase it's height. Extensions are available in 100, 125, 250, 500 and 1000mm sizes. X-pole can be used up to 3650mm (12' / 144") in standard format above that it is advised to use additional support. X-Pole has been used at 4250mm (14' / 168") with no problems but safety must always be a priority. X-Pole technical support can help with poles above 3650mm (12' / 144").

How do I know what extensions to buy?
How to select the right extensions for your height is explained on the web site and in the instruction manual there is a height chart. On the web site type in the your height and the automatic calculator will select the correct extensions for you. Using the height chart in the instructions select the pole that matched the height of your ceiling and note the size of the extensions required (if any). The box contains a 125 and 250 mm extensions. Any further extensions will need purchasing.

How long does it take to put up?
Once the height has been measured and the extensions selected the X-Pole takes no more than 10 minutes to erect for the first time -that's reading the instructions at the same time! After that it takes 2~3 minutes.

How long does installation take?
When first assembling X-Pole it will take about 10 minutes as the height will need to be measured, the extensions selected (if required) and the adjuster screwed into the main upper pole. Subsequent installations will take 3~5 minutes depending on the level of breakdown.

How portable is it?
X-Pole is supplied in a carry box with a hi-density foam inner. It can be carried in the box but the box will not stand day to day use. The foam inner can be transferred to an optional nylon carry case which makes X-Pole extremely portable.

 What's on the DVD?
The 1 hour X-Pole Experience DVD is hosted by Katie Coates one of the Uk's most prolific dancers and a leading teacher of pole exercise and dance. During the DVD Katie shows the viewer and one of her students how to assemble X-Pole explaining about joists, measurements and other important points relating to the X-Pole. Katie then goes through a warm up, shows her student, who also tries each move, 6 basic spins with breakdowns, some floor work to join it all together and then finishes off with a 3 minute show combining all the moves.

Will it damage my floor?
X-Pole has a soft silicone pad around the base. This gives excellent adhesion to virtually any surface and also stops any damage. As with any pressure pole it is possible that marks may occur but these can be rubbed off.

What floors can X-Pole be used on?
X-Pole can be used on virtually any floor, wood, tile, carpet etc. etc. If there is any doubt please ring our technical support department. Care needs to be taken on wooden floors which flex to make sure the pole is fully compressed.

What else will I need?
Everything to assemble the actual X-Pole is in the box. Additional items are a tape measure - to measure the ceiling height and the distance from the wall for future installations, a pair of step ladders ( a chair can be used but id not recommended) and possibly a stud finder to locate the joists. A pencil is also useful to discretely mark the pole position.

Technical
How strong is an X-Pole?
X-Pole has been designed for professional dancers. It uses hi-grade steel and has screw together joints for added strength and stability. It has been used with two people dancing on it a girl and a guy!

How can I insert/remove the adjuster quickly?
The best was to do this is to hold the adjuster with the tube hanging downwards and spin the tube. Either brush your hand over the tube to spin it or get someone else to spin the tube. There is also an optional accessory that fits in a hand drill and allows the drill to spin the adjuster into the main pole.

How do you release the poles tubes if they are stuck?
X-Pole is supplied with release rods. With the base in 'static' mode insert the rod and turn anticlockwise. If tubes joints still will not release place the tubes on a flat surface, insert the rods and with one rod against the surface give the other rod sharp tap. It is not force that releases the tubes it is the shock. If the tube still will not release place something solid under the release rod so it is parallel to the surface the poles are on and try again. This so that the shock goes into the solid object and is not absorbed by the rod itself.

How tight does the adjuster have to be?
The X-Pole adjuster needs to be tight but not over tight. Tighten the adjuster and check the X-Pole for movement. Try a spin if there is no movement the pole should be fine. If there is any movement further tighten the adjuster. It helps to have someone stand on the base to compress the floor whilst tightening the adjuster.

Adjuster cover is stiff?
If the adjuster cover O-ring is too tight and will not slide, rub a tiny film of Vaseline on to the O-ring. DO NOT get the Vaseline on the pole. Only a very tiny amount is needed, just enough to dampen the O-ring. If too much is put on wipe off with a tissue. Cover should now slide easily.

I can not find the adjuster!
The screw adjuster is under the adjuster cover. There are three small slots in the centre of the foam box and one slot has longer thin cut outs at both ends. It is the bottom slot when the foam inner is viewed with the large circular upper dome thinner pieces at either end (one with a long screw section). That is the adjuster. Just take the whole unit out of the box, press on the release button at the top of the tube and slide the cover off. Remove the foam cover support and screw into the upper main pole

I can not find the Nut?
The nut is under the adjuster cover. Please press in the two locating buttons at the top of the adjuster cover, slide off the cover and the nut is underneath. Remove the foam support ring before use.

Installation
What are joists?
Joists are the pieces of wood or metal that support the floors in a building. The ceiling is also normally attached to them. X-Pole uses pressure to stabilise it so it needs to be positioned against two joists.

How do I locate joists?
Joists can be located by either tapping across the ceiling with a knuckle or with an electronic stud finder. With a knuckle you tap across until a more solid sound is heard - this is a joist or beam. A hollow sound is the space between the joists. A stud finder will locate the joist electronically (see what is a stud finder).

What is a stud finder?
A stud finder is an electronic device that lactates solid objects such as joists, beams etc. It senses changes in density of the material it is measuring and either 'beeps' or lights an LED.
Using X Pole
What should I wear?
Pole exercise and dance moves require friction between skin and the pole therefore the more exposed skin the better. Shorts and a crop top are ideal, bikini for the more daring. However, it is important to feel comfortable so wear what you feel comfortable wearing even if you may not be able to do some of the moves due to lack of friction. X-Pole has a range of suitable pole excercise and dance clothes on the web site.

What shoes are best?
Pole the more friction on the pole the better so bare feet, dance shoes or boots are best. However, trainers and or any other comfortable shoes are fine. If using trainers try to use ones with a low friction sole as pole dancing requires you to rotate on the ball of your feet and that can be difficult in trainers.
Does the pole need cleaning?
Yes any pole needs cleaning as skin contact, sweat etc. will make the pole slippery. A slippery pole is dangerous as the user could slip off the pole causing serious injury. Clean the pole regularly with a glass cleaner or metholated spirits.
Lotions and oils
NEVER use body lotions or oils prior to using a pole. This is extremely dangerous as the user could slip off the pole causing serious injury.
